Lithium-ion jump starters’ popularity is rising because of their mobility, simplicity, and reliability. So what is a lithium-ion jump starter? It’s a lightweight gadget powered by a lithium-ion cell. This battery makes jumping-start a lifeless car or other vehicle’s charge simple. Moreover, this jump starter is more compact and lighter than a traditional one. As a lithium-ion jump starter has several benefits, here I will introduce you to all of them.

Advantages of Lithium-Ion Jump Starters

Advantages of Lithium-Ion Jump Starters

1. Lightweight and Portable

A lithium-ion jump starter is lightweight and portable because it uses a smaller battery. It has a higher energy density to store the same power in smaller, lighter batteries. As a result, you can easily bring it along on a lengthy trip. Some lithium-ion jump starters can also fit in your pocket. This portable jump starter can also charge your mobile or power camping equipment.

2. Long-Lasting Power

Lithium has a significantly lower natural discharge rate than lead. A lead-acid-based jump starter can lose power after being stored for three to six months. Lithium-ion batteries can keep a jump starter running for up to two years.

3. Faster Charging Times

A lithium-ion jump starter can charge up within 30 minutes, whereas a traditional

battery needs 2 to 3 hr. So a lithium-ion jump starter is faster in charging than a traditional one.

Features of Lithium-Ion Jump Starters

1. Safety Features

A lithium-ion jump starter has several built-in safety features like a spark, overheating, reverse polarity, overcharging protection, etc. It also has a safety feature to prevent damage from a short circuit. On the other hand, reverse polarity ensures the connection of jump starter cables correctly. If the lithium-ion doesn’t have these safety features, your jump starter can damage itself and your car because of excessive current or inappropriate connection. Moreover, these features extend the life of the jump starter.

2. Built-In Accessories

A lithium-ion jump starter also has built-in accessories like air compressors, USB

charging ports, and LED flashlights. This extra feature can be helpful in emergencies. For example, if your car battery dies at night, this LED flashlight can help locate the problem or signal for help. Your phone and other electronic gadgets are charged through USB connections. If you are somewhere without access to electrical outlets, you will appreciate this function. Lastly, the jump starter air compressor helps you to fix your flat car tire. So whenever you buy a jump starter, you must select it with additional features according to your need.

How to Choose a Lithium-Ion Jump Starter?

When you purchase a lithium-ion starter, you must consider some factors. Here are some elements are given below that I consider when I buy my one:

1. Voltage

You need a jump starter whose amperage is compatible with your car’s battery. A 12-volt battery is standard in most vehicles. But if you operate a tractor or other big car, the battery could be 24.0 volts.

2. Size

The jump-starting weight can fluctuate from 1.0 to 2.0 pounds up to 20.0 to 30.0 pounds. If your vehicle doesn’t have a lot of extra space, a small jump starter could be handy. However, more significant jump starts may provide the necessary strength if you operate a heavy-duty vehicle.

3. Capacity

When you search for a jump starter, you must consider the battery’s capacity. For example, If you purchase it for a small to medium-sized vehicle, you may need at least 6000mAh battery capacity. Or if it is for larger vehicles like trucks, buses, etc., you may require a capacity of 10000mAh or more.

4. Power Output

How much electricity the jump starter can supply is its power output. You need a solid generator to jump-start your battery and have the motor take over the charging process. So whenever you buy a jump starter, you must choose “Peak amps” for power output. The peak amps provide the highest current with the jump starter’s charge, which can give the car battery. You can find out how much energy your automobile requires from the battery’s instructions.

5. Safety Features

You need a jump starter that protects against overcharging, short-circuiting, and negative polarity. These safeguards will keep you and your car safe while you’re attempting a jump start.

6. Cable Length

Jump starters typically come with wires connected to the battery connections to transfer power from the jump start to the battery. Most professionals recommend a 12-foot charging cord.

7. Brand and Warranty

You must choose a branded jump starter with a warranty of at least one year. It will ensure jump starters’ reliability and long-lasting usage.

Your needs will determine which jump starter is best for you. A jump starter with a greater capacity and peak amps classification may be necessary for a larger car with a larger battery. The jump starter’s mobility and the time it takes to charge may be of utmost importance if you use it frequently or in inconvenient places. Consider your requirements and prices when deciding to purchase a lithium-ion jump starter.
